Out With The Old, In with HD

Canons and Sonys

I don’t typically post about equipment that we purchase because, let’s face it, only geeks like me even care. I always get a kick out of couples that ask me how many CCDs my cameras have. I always ask, “Do you really want to know, or are you asking because that is in the ‘list of questions you should ask your videographer’?” (By the way, the answer is 3.)

But today I had to share with you some news and a couple photos. I felt it was appropriate to do this because our company has not undergone a fundamental shift of this magnitude since I decided to go full-time five years ago.

We have been hinting at the fact for some time that we are going to be switching to a High Definition workflow. While this is exciting, it is also a little nerve wracking. Over the past few weeks we have been buying new equipment almost daily as we gear up for our first full HD wedding this coming weekend. We have also been practicing, tweaking color presets, testing light and audio, and reading and re-reading the manual and on-line forums in preparation.

To add to the fun, we are also going to be doing a Same Day Edit this coming weekend. How is that for ‘Trial By Fire’.

Below are some images of the cameras that we decided on for our productions. I am amazed at the images that these cameras are capable of producing. While there are a few challenges that come along with switching to HD the results are astounding. Be sure to check out the blog on Sunday for the first HD SDE!
